Puzzle games that respect your attention

Puzzle games that respect your attention

The worst thing a puzzle game can do is interrupt you when you're thinking. Yet so many of them do exactly that, flashing a countdown or begging you to buy more lives right as an idea forms.

We've come to love the quieter puzzlers. Glimmer Grid is the poster child — pure logic, no pressure, and a design that trusts you to figure things out. It's the kind of game you can put down mid-level and return to a day later.

A good puzzle game teaches you its rules without a tutorial wall. It introduces one idea, lets you master it, then twists it. When that rhythm works, you barely notice how much you've learned by the tenth level.

Our tip for puzzle fatigue: rotate between two different games. When one has you stuck, switching to a different mechanic clears your head, and often the solution to the first one pops into your mind while you're away.

Offline is a bonus here too. Puzzles are the perfect no-signal companion, and none of the ones we recommend need a connection to work.
